Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder commonly accompanied by
dyslipidemia due to insulin resistance, increasing the risk of cardiovascular
complications. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between fasting blood
glucose levels and lipid profile levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at
Windu Husada Badung Hospital. A correlational research design was employed.
The population included all patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus who underwent
fasting blood glucose and lipid profile examinations simultaneously between
February 2025 and February 2026. A total of 79 patients were selected using a
total sampling technique. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation
test. Most participants had fasting blood glucose levels within the target category
(65.8%). The analysis showed no significant relationship between fasting blood
glucose levels and total cholesterol (p=0.266) or HDL (p=0.463). However,
significant relationships were found with LDL (p=0.003) and triglycerides
(p=0.002). These findings may be explained by insulin resistance, which increases
lipolysis and hepatic very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL) production, while the
absence of associations with total cholesterol and HDL may be influenced by lipid-
lowering therapy and lifestyle factors. In conclusion, fasting blood glucose levels
were significantly associated with LDL and triglyceride levels but not with total
cholesterol or HDL levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
