Introduction: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the chronic diseases characterized by increased glucose levels in the blood. Non-adherence to diabetes treatment will increase the risk of complications. Family empowerment is one of the important keys in increasing medication adherence for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between family empowerment and medication adherence in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Methods: This study is a correlational descriptive research with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study is a type 2 diabetes mellitus patient in the Blahbatuh II Health Center Working Area as many as 116 respondents who were taken through purposive sampling techniques. Data collection was conducted using the Family Empowerment and Medication Compliance Questionnaire (MMAS-8) which was analyzed using the Sperman's Rho test. Results: The results of the Sperman's Rho test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.005) and a correlation value of 0.817. Analysis: There was a very strong and significant relationship with a positive correlation between family empowerment and medication adherence in Type 2 DM patients, where the higher the empowerment, the higher the patient's medication adherence. Discussion: Families who have good empowerment are able to provide more effective knowledge support, supervision, and mentoring so that they contribute directly to increasing medication adherence for type 2 diabetes mellitus patients.
